The study was conducted in Romania. Both groups have stiffer arteries. The study included 20 people, who had moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (without diabetes), 20 people with diabetes and 20 people who are healthy. The research then looked at how their arteries were able to respond to a series of tests.

Regulating blood sugars at night time can increase safety and help people with diabetes sleep better at night time.

Most people will wake up if something is wrong with their sugar levels. Indicators may include strange sensations, “fast heart rate, hunger, sweating, or a general feeling of restlessness.” However, some people do not get the symptoms, which may be dangerous and result in loss of consciousness or seizures. With bedtime blood sugars confusion may be heightened more than during the daytime.

But can it be used to control blood glucose levels? Cinnamon is low in calories, source of manganese and fiber, and can be used as anti-inflammatory, boosting brain function, and lowering cholesterol and triglycerides levels.

In a recent study, cinnamon was reported to aid in regulating blood glucose levels in normal-weight and obese adults. Consumption of about 2 tsp. of cinnamon (ground cassia cinnamon or “Chinese cinnamon” was used in the study) with a meal reduced blood glucose at 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes after the meal was consumed. Be careful though, studies have also shown that consuming too much cinnamon may leads to liver disease.

Cassie Westad, a fifth grader and an 11 years old, is one of these youth and has planned an event now for six years.

She participates in the annual Juvenile Diabetes, “Walk to Cure Diabetes”, fundraising walk at the Mall of America every year. The walk supports Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and will be held on February 23, 2013 this year. Annually, supporters raise $2 million and there are close to 20,000 participants.

Westad has fundraised more than $5,000 last year and is hoping to raise the same this year. There are two hair salons that are supporting her goals by donating $5 per adult and $3 per child hair cut.

It is now recommended to start medicine as soon as possible before waiting to see if lifestyle changes would help.

Metformin and nutritional planning is prescribed for those who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Exercise(at least 60 minutes a day) is highly recommended.

Her diabetes was detected at the age of 29 and she has written about her journey. She is now 46 with a family.

When anyone is diagnosed, they may go through so many emotions and feelings and are often not sure how to respond or what to do.

Many people are constantly lessons about being able to better manage her diabetes and Amy Ryan describes her lessons. She writes about diabetes burnout, where at first patients are very careful about their decisions but later struggle as they try to make the best decisions. Patients stop checking glucose levels and carbs. Ryan wanted to tell her personal story instead of the medical definitions and descriptions.

Here are some strategies to keep in mind:

* Aim for better, not perfect.

* Ask for support.

* Concentrate on the positive

* Focus on what you want.

* Mentor someone.

* Practice gratitude.

* Take small steps where you see you can improve.
